NAMI Long Beach receives Dignity Health grant to offer Mental Health First Aid training to local schools & community organizations

January 2020

We are proud to announce that NAMI Long Beach has been awarded a $60,000 grant from Dignity Health to deliver mental health awareness training for adults working with at-risk youth. The grant was awarded as part of Dignity Health's Cultural Trauma and Mental Health Resiliency Project; several other NAMI affiliates in LA County are also grant recipients.

Under the program, NAMI Long Beach is providing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) to adults who regularly interact with young people, particularly young people of color. MHFA is a nationally recognized evidence-based course that teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental distress.

  • NAMI Long Beach will provide classes on request to adults, faculty, administrators, parents and other leaders at schools, youth and community organizations. If you would like to request a training for your local school or organization, please submit a request with details of your organization to (maximum of 30 students per class).
  • In addition, NAMI Long Beach will begin offering monthly trainings open to the public in late February. More details will be posted soon.
